Day 8: Search resumes, Omar nowhere

Srinagar, Mar 21: Police Monday said the search operations to fish out the body of 10-year-old Omar Farooq Sheikh who slipped into Jhelum when chased by stray dogs a week back, have been resumed.
“Today we rode in a motorboat upto Sumbal but his body couldn’t be found anywhere,” a senior police official said.
Omar drowned into the river when he was out to buy biscuits but before reaching back home the stray dogs attacked the boy.
Pertinently the locals have been accusing the government of being callous towards the family of a poor rag-picker who lost their son “because of stray dogs and administrative failure to rescue him in time.”
Resentment has also been brewing against the MLA Eidgah, Mubarak Gul with complainants saying he was callous towards the welfare of poor people of his constituency.
“What prevented (MLA) Mubarak Gul and the concerned DDC from taking timely assistance from scuba divers of Navy? Or is there no value for life of a poor boy,” a delegation of locals argued.
