SKUAST-J to organize 3-day Kissan Mela

Jammu, Mar 21: The SK University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu is organizing a 3-day Kissan Mela from March 23 to 25 at its campus, Chatha.
It is expected that more than 10,000 farmers, farm women, extension workers development functionaries, students and youth from different parts of the Jammu Division and elsewhere are expected to participate in this three day event, an official statement said.
As per the statement issued by the  Director Extension Education SKUAST- J, the University is planning to organize a Mega Kissan Mela at campus for creating awareness among the farmers about the latest Modern agriculture technologies, different services and recent advances and innovations in the agriculture sector and products available.
The event will also provide opportunity for entrepreneurs, NGOs, Central/State departments, State Agriculture universities and private sectors who are interested in popularizing their products and technologies.
The University realizes that much more is needed to be done to ensure farmers prosperity, self sufficiency of various food crops, pluses, oil seeds and animal products in the State, the Statement said.
Several ICAR Institutes, SUAs, development agencies from the public and private sectors, leading agriculture firms, NGOs, self help groups and framer organization will display their technologies/innovations/products during the Kissan Mel. Sale of seeds/ sapling/ products of high yielding verities and agricultural publications by different stakeholders are other attractions of the Mela.
