Kashmir Centre holds demo in Geneva
Srinagar: Kashmir Centre, European Union, organized a demonstration outside the United Nation office in Geneva, calling upon the Human Rights Council to do more to improve rights situation in Jammu Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (R) chief patron and executive director Kashmir Centre Brussels, Barrister Abdul Majid Tramboo, urged the Council to take seriously its obligations and seek justice for the victims of serious human rights abuses in Kashmir. He said perpetrators of crime against women at Kunan Poshpora had so far gone unpunished.
He said the Public Safety Act, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, and the Criminal Procedure Code, etc. give blanket immunity to the armed forces in Kashmir. “The failure of the Government of India and the international community to bring to justice the perpetrators of crime in the Kunan Poshpora case has led to numerous other incidents,” said Tramboo, according to Front statement issued here. He referred to other rights abuses including disappearance, torture and summary executions.
