Soldier shoots self

Srinagar: An army solider today allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Baramulla.
 K Thangaswamy of 23 Mortar Regiment shot himself and died on the spot inside the army camp at Khanpora, a police official said.PTI

CHARAS SMUGGLER HELD
 Police has arrested a Charas smuggler at Kunzer Tangmarg in Baramulla district seizing one kilogram contraband from his possession.
 According to police, the accused has been identified as Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh of Pandithpora, Kunzar. “Ghulam Ahmad was evading arrest from the last seven years,” police said.

 Police in Baramulla has arrested Mudassir Nazir Lone of Kachawa Muqam, accused in the contract killing of Nazir Ahmad Lone of Kreeri.

GIRL ENDS LIFE
 A girl of Doorosa Sogam, Kupwara ended her life by allegedly consuming some poisonous substance at her home, police said.

YOUTH CONF ORGANIZED
 A youth conference was organized by Sopore Police at Community Centre Hadipora Rafiabad in which 200 youth from Panzalla and Dangiwacha participated.
 The conference was inaugurated by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sopore, Muhammad Ahsan Mir and attended by SP Sopore, Principal Degree College, Vice-Principal Higher Secondary School Dangiwacha, General Manager DIC Baramulla, Assistant Director Employment Baramulla, BMO Dangiwacha, SDPO Sopore, Dy SP Police Component Sopore/Rafiabad.
 The speakers deliberated on unemployment, youth education and IT, involvement of youth in health and hygiene, their role in promoting tolerance and understanding among various sections of society.

SEMINAR HELD
 A seminar “Promotion of National Integration and Communal Harmony” was organized by IR 5th Bn APC Humhama under Civic Action Programme at RMP Higher Secondary School Budgam. Fairozah Nazir, Ulfat Abdullah and Shafi Zehra bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
