622 dwelling units for poor to come up in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 25: Jammu and Kashmir Government today said it has formulated Rs 22.37 crore project for the construction of 622 dwelling units for the poor people living within the limit of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The government has formulated Rs 22.37 crore project for the construction of 622 dwelling units for urban poor living within the limit of SMC, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said in reply to a question in the Assembly.
Under the project, 246 dwelling units would be constructed in Sumerbug, 100 in Lepar colony in Baharar, 36 in Idgah Tibetan colony and 240 in Wanganpora, he said.
Project for construction of dwelling units at Waganpora for rehabilitation of the sweepers of Zahidpora, Tujgari Mohalla and Bachi Darwaza was put to tenders in March and July 2010 but no response was received, he said, adding the work was finally put to tenders on October 2010 but only three tenders were received. The same are under the process
of its finalisation and fixation of the contract.
He said the centre is launching another scheme for slum clearance viz Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) from the next financial year and rehabilitation of Zahidpora area will be considered under the scheme.
