7 years on, 2300 educational volunteers await regularization

UMER MAQBOOL

Srinagar, Mar 26: Even after completion of seven years, hundreds of youth appointed as Educational Volunteers under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan are yet to be regularized by the State Government.
A group of Volunteers who were elevated to Rehbar-e-Taleem told Greater Kashmir that they were running from pillar to post to get their services regularized.
“It is sheer injustice with us that even after completion of seven years service the Government is yet to fulfill its promise of regularization. We approached everybody including education minister, but our repeated pleas have fallen on deaf ears, “said Nazir Ahmed, an appointee.
“With the launching of scheme under SSA in State in 2003, more than 2300 educated youth holding post-graduation, graduation and other highly qualified degrees were appointed as EVs. After appointment, most of them who were to be regularized in first two years had to wait for five years, as Government only came with their elevation order in 2008,” they said.
“We were paid meager salary of Rs 1000 and turned our homes into schools. But the government is now betraying us, “they said
When contacted, Deputy Director Education, Kashmir said the Government was yet to decide whether their service would be counted from 2008 when they were elevated to ReTS or previous service would be taken in consideration.
He said that all the eligible EVs have been elevated, while those who were yet to complete 10+2 studies had been given last mercy chance.
