Markets inspected, traders fined

13 mutton shops sealed, underweight oil tins seized

Srinagar, Mar 26: The Enforcement squad of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) led by its Director, Abdul Wahid Tak Saturday launched drive against black-marketing and profiteering in the City and recovered a fine of Rs 5200 from the allegedly erring traders.
 An official handout said the team inspected markets in Kaka Sarai, Safa Kadal, Qamerwari, HSH Street, Jawahir Nafiar and Raj Bagh areas.
 “The team have sealed 13 Retail Mutton Shops for overcharging and for not having retail mutton licences of the Department. Besides two poultry dealers and one readymade garment shop in Residency Road were booked under Essential Commodities Act,” it added.
 The Director, CAPD has warned the traders not to indulge in the “illegal means of business.”
 Meanwhile, a team of officials from the Legal Metrology department seized underweight edible oil tins during checking at Pantha Chowk.
 In a statement, the department said during the checking, the Inspector Legal Metrology Circle-1 found underweight edible oil tins. 
 “The company responsible for short filling and its distributor were served notice through the retailer. The labeled net weight mentioned on the edible oil tins was 15 kgs. However, the net weight found on the spot was only 14.7 Kg,” it said.
