Protests continue in Rafiabad

UMER MAQBOOL

Srinagar, Mar 26: Protests continued for the second consecutive day Saturday in north Kashmir’s Rafiabad area, with people demanding arrest of those involved in the alleged murder of a youth.
This morning scores of people raising anti-government slogans took to streets in Ladoora Rafiabad, demanding the arrest of the persons involved in the ‘murder’ of Muhammad Yasin Mir whom went missing on March 2. The locals alleged that Mir was murdered, while police say that they were waiting for the post mortem report to ascertain actual cause of his death.
Body of 24-year-old Mir, whose disappearance had sparked massive protests in the area, was recovered on Friday from a trench adjacent to his house.
“We would continue protests till the persons involved in heinous crime are brought to book. The injury on his body clearly shows that he was murdered,” they alleged.
All the shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed and traffic was off the roads for second consecutive day.
A senior police official said that police has expedited investigations in the case.
“The FSL team today collected samples from the trench where from the body was recovered. We are waiting for the post mortem report to ascertain the cause of his death,” he said.
He said that inquest proceedings under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code have been initiated in the case.
