SONWAR’S DEMAND FOR SMC TAKE OVER REACHES FACEBOOK

OFFICIALS SAY ANIMAL CARCASS REMOVED FROM OUTSIDE GB PANTH HOSPITAL ONLY AFTER CIVIL ADMINISTRATION’S INTERVENTION

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Mar 26: The demand of Sonawar residents that their area be taken  over by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has finally reached the Facebook walls with netizens accusing the Badami Bagh Cantt Board of failing to manage the civilian area.
The public reaction popped up following a wall posting by a government official who exposed the allegedly sorry-state-of-the affairs in the area saying a animal carcass was lying unattended in the area Sunday till Divisional Commissioner, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon intervened.
“Carcass of an animal, which died in a road accident, was lying in front of GB Panth hospital, Sonwar for past three hours. The area is under jurisdiction of Cantt Board … no action had been taken by BB Cantt. It was removed by SMC, after intervention of Div Com Kashmir,” the official wrote triggering a debate.
Showkat Hussain a netizen reacted: “Quite unfortunate that our Divisional Commissioner had to personally intervene to get the carcass removed.  That shows the apathy and absolute lack of accountability.”
“BB Cant Board should wake up from its deep slumber and the staff should be made answerable for the mess. I believe the GB Pant hospital is also in shambles with poor hygiene and lack of infrastructure. The Govt should shut it down if it can not maintain the basic minimum standards to provide healthcare facilities,” he added.
Suhail Ahmed claiming to be a local wrote: “Situation in all the civilian areas of Cantt are same. It’s better if we are shifted to SMC. We really are fee up of Cantt board.”
Pertinently for the past many years the locals have been appealing to the government that the residential areas in the proximity of the Badami Bagh Cantt be handed over to the SMC domain.
The residents have been accusing the Board authorities of failing to provide requisite civic amenities like sanitation, road network and drainage.
Despite repeated attempts the BB Cantt Board officials couldn’t be contacted for comment.
