Arrests trigger protest at Kunzar

Tangmarg: The arrest of three persons at Kunzar Tangmarg in Baramulla triggered protests in the area on Monday with people demanding their immediate release. According to the locals, police arrested Muhammad Shafi Baba, Mushtaq Ahmad Najar and Noor Muhammad Sheikh form their work places. “As news of their arrest spread in the area, hundreds of people took to the streets and shouted slogans against the police. They enforced shutdown in the area and staged sit-in, disrupting traffic on Srinagar-Gulmarg for hours,” the witnesses said. The protestors rubbished the police claims that the trio was involved in stone pelting during the last summer unrest. “They were involved in their business and not any other activity,” the protestors said and accused the police of trying to “vitiate” the atmosphere by arresting the persons. The three persons, reports said were later released by the police.
