59th All India Police Wrestling Cluster declared open

Jammu, Mar 2: The 59th All India Police Wrestling Cluster was declared open by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib at Gulshan Ground here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib said Jammu and Kashmir Police, besides its professional duties has been doing a commendable job for promotion of sports activities in the State.
“The sports personnel of the Organization have represented the country at various international levels and earned name for the Nation and the State. The State is proud of these sports personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police,” he added.
In the 5-day long national level championship, around 1550 players including 219 women players representing 26 States and 5 Central Police Organizations are participating in the event. The championship will be played in five disciplines including Weightlifting, Wrestling, Judo, Gymnastic and Boxing at different venues viz. Police Auditorium, Jammu University Indoor Hall, Police Badminton Hall, Indoor Complex M.A. Stadium and BSF Indoor Hall Paloura.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda highlighted the achievements of Jammu and Kashmir Police in the arena of sports. He said that players of JKP have proved their mettle at State and National level events and have brought laurels to the State at the national and international competitions notably.
He said, Ram Singh who conquered Mount Everest and is the first Mountaineer to achieve this feat from the J & K State. Inspectors Kuldeep Handoo, who has been selected as Wu-Shu Coach of Indian Team by Wu-Shue Association of India for 11thSAF Games. Likewise Inspector Satyakam Sharma has been selected as Technical Official for the Common Wealth Championship hosted by Indian Boxing Federation at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. Sajad Ahamed has been selected as coach for trails and coaching camp on India youth boys Volleyball team. Mr. Rashid Ahmad who won gold medal in 20th Senior National Fencing Championship held at Salem Tamil Nadu and Vivek Khajuria and many others have made the JKP proud in different events.
Khoda said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been focussing on promoting sports activities in the State and the Organization has been providing logistic support to the talented youngsters to provide them opportunities to hone their skills in the field of sports. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing various sports events at different levels across the State and the activities have helped in enthusing the youth for their greater participation in sports. The events have served as a bridge of understanding and goodwill between the people and police, he added.
On the occasion, the Additional Director General of Police, Armed/Law and Order, who is also Organizing Secretary of the Championship threw light on 5-day long different events being held at various venues in the city. He thanked the participating teams for taking part in the Cluster and the print / electronic media for giving due coverage of the sports events being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the State. He hoped that this event will be highlighted in the interest of sports lovers of the State.
