Conversion of agri land for commercial purposes unabated in Baramulla
ALTAF BABA
Baramulla, Mar 30: The conversion of agriculture land for commercial purposes is going on unabated in Baramulla district with authorities turning blind eye towards the issue.
“Many kanals of agriculture land at Delina have been converted and houses, shops, and other structures have been constructed during the last two months and earth filling at several places was going on in full swing,” the concerned residents of the area told Greater Kashmir adding the agriculture land at various places on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway was also being converted under the nose of Revenue officials.
“A year ago, the conversion of agriculture land was stopped following strict instruction from the Tehsildar Baramulla who received many complaints about it,” Shahzad Ahmad of Delina said adding soon after his transfer, the process started again and this time more vigorously.
The residents said the people were flouting the government orders with impunity. “Divisional Commissioner in his order No Div.Com/LRS-VRD/S.133/239/07 dated 18-08-09, had directed all the Deputy Commissioners, to stop the further conversion of the Agriculture land and asked them to furnish a list of residential houses, commercial establishments, educational institutions, industries, private nursing homes, which came up from the last five years on agriculture land,” the residents said adding the order was never implemented in its letter and spirit.
