Habba Kadal plants Deodar saplings

Srinagar, Mar 30: Prompted by Greater Kashmir news report wherein experts suggested that more and more Deodar saplings be planted in Srinagar, many a government and other organizations this spring undertook drives to plant the prized saplings.
 The latest initiative has been taken  up by MLA Habakadal and Chairperson, State Commission for Women, Shamim Firdous who Wednesday launched a plantation drive in her constituency by planting Devdars and other conifers.
 An official handout said the conifers were planted in a bid to “convert the historical Srinagar city into green city.”
 She asked the Srinagarites to “come forward for conserving the green gold of the state and save the city form all pollutions.”
 Firdous took off her plantation drive by planting some Devdar saplings in public parks at Kralkhud area near Shetalnath High School. She was told that 40 saplings of Devdar are being planted in the park by Urban Social Forestry (USF).
 Later, MLA planted 11 Cupres saplings at a public park near new Habakadal Chowk near Reshi Mohalla, 10 such plants at Zaldagar Park and 10 Devdar plants at New Fateh Kadal Public Park near Taj Bibi Complex.
 She was informed that Urban Social Forestry department has planted nearby 22000 saplings in Srinagar city areas.
 On this occasion, addressing party workers, Firdous said that “our green gold has suffered a huge damage during the last twenty years adding that forests not only provides us timber and firewood but plays a vital role in maintaining   the atmosphere clean.”
 Meanwhile a number of people demanded installation of new transformers and uninterrupted power supply and also drew her attention towards dilapidated condition of Drabyar in the old City.
