Fanatics immune from punishment: Nayeem
Srinagar, Mar 4: National Front chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan on Friday said the BJP leader Ashok Khajuria’s recent anti-Muslim remarks in Assembly spoke volumes about Government’s ‘double standards.’
Khan, according to Front statement, accused the Government of encouraging the Hindu extremists to go to any extent in offending the religious sentiments of Muslims. “Had any Muslim spoken anything against Hindus and their religion, that too in the Assembly, he would have been dubbed as anti-national and booked under Public Safety Act,” he said.
“The majority community in Kashmir, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar are being harassed by invoking draconian laws like PSA against them. Over 4000 Muslim youth and political activists have been arrested in the last eight months in the name of maintaining law and order in the State. Though the fact remains, law and order problem is created by the Hindu fanatics, not the Muslim youth,” said Khan adding the local government cannot take action against them for obvious reasons.
Khan warned that the Government of India must change its policy of arrests, imposition of ban and using power against Kashmiris. “It must recognize the right to self determination of Kashmiri people which has been accepted internationally. The people of J&K cannot give up their demand for right of self- determination for fear of being booked under the draconian PSA,” said Khan.
