12,000 recruited in police: Govt

Jammu, Mar 5: More than 12,000 youths have been recruited in the state police during the last two years, Jammu and Kashmir government said today.
In a written reply to a question in the Legislative Council, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the minister in-charge for Home, said that as many as 12,448 youths have been recruited in the state police from February 24, 2009-11.
Of these, 11,565 were appointed as constables, 372 as followers, 510 as sub-inspectors and one as assistant sub-inspector, he said in the Legislative Council.
The maximum number of recruitments were made in Jammu district (1,686), followed by Srinagar district at 1,110 and Anantnag district at 1,076, he added.
