Sugar scam: Cops raid FCI godown in Jammu
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Srinagar, Mar 5: Continuing probe in the sugar scam, the Special Investigation Team of police Saturday raided the Food Corporation of India godown in Jammu and quizzed its general manager.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that a police team headed by Superintendent of Police, Srinagar South, Sujeet Kumar raided the godown this afternoon and seized vital documents from there.
Later general manager of FCI, RC Meena, was quizzed by the team in connection with case in which sugar meant for common man was allegedly sold in private market by contractors in collusion with FCI and CAPD officials.
Meanwhile, two more persons arrested by police on Friday were sent to police remand today.
“They have been sent to Valley for further investigation of the case,” sources said, adding that sugar was sold in open market through the challans provided by the arrested duo.
About the modus operandi of the racket, they said number-plates of the vehicles loaded from FCI Jammu were changed at Lower Munda.
“They would carry two challans after being loaded from Jammu. When they would reach Lower Munda, they would change number plates of the trucks and then use the challans provided by the two arrested persons to sell the sugar in open market,” sources said.
Police has also recorded the statements of three more witnesses under Section 164-A CrPC in Jammu.
“Besides, statements of 6-7 witnesses were also recorded by police themselves,” they further said.
Confirming two more arrests, Superintendent of Police, Srinagar South, Sujeet Kumar said that investigations of the case were on.
“We have arrested more than 10 persons so far, and whosoever is guilty wouldn’t be spared,” he said.
