Jamia Masjid
The Jamia Masjid is not merely a structure but a history standing amidst us. We as Kashmiri should be proud of it. It has always remained a centre stage in Kashmir’s history whether political or religious. However I was shocked and saw for myself the depressing situation when I visited the Jamia Masjid few days back to buy some essentials in Jamia market. In the meantime I had opportunity to pray Asar Nimaz in the grand mosque. After entering the grand mosque I saw only seven or eight men praying Asar Nimaz and three women offering Nimaz. While some tourists were walking in between the space separating men and women.
Respect for Jamia Masjid is running in our blood. We have association with this historical grand mosque of Kashmir and that is the reason I lost my patience. I completed my prayers, saw dust in and around pulpit placed on left side of mosque. Dust and untidy iron almirah in which copies of the scripture is kept also pained me. This Grand mosque lacks the facilities of hot water in bathrooms, and there is no heating arrangement in Jamia Masjid’s particular portion.
I have great respect for all those who mange this mosque, and I bring this into their notice not for the sake of it but expecting that action follows.
