Rs 2.91 cr spenton surrendered militants: Govt
Jammu, Mar 7: The government Monday said that Rs 2.91 crores have been spent on the rehabilitation of surrendered militants in the state."As on February 15, 2011, an amount of Rs 2,91,03,924 have been spent on the rehabilitation of the surrendered militants in Jammu and Kashmir,"
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a written reply to the question of BJP member Chaman Lal Gupta in Legislative Assembly.He further said that rehabilitation council of Social Welfare Department is taking care of the victims of militancy (next of the kin of militancy victims) and providing them pension.
Omar said that Rs 750 per month is being given under a policy to the widows, handicapped and old-age persons, besides one-time marriage assistance of Rs 10,000 is also given to young widows and the grown up daughters of the civilians killed due to militancy.Similarly, scholarships are also granted to orphans of the killed militants at the rate of Rs 800 per month in urban areas and Rs 750 per month in rural areas with effect from April 1, 2008, he said.
