SPCB seizes 4 quintal polythene

Srinagar, Mar 7: The District Office of State Pollution Control Board, Islamabad (Anantnag), conducted surprise raid of markets in the town and seized about four quintals of polythene carry bags from the traders on Monday.
 Municipal Council Islamabad (Anantnag), Revenue Officials and police were part of the raid, which was conducted on the directions of SPCB Regional Director, Kashmir, SFA Gillani.
 Recently the SPCB conducted similar raids in Srinagar and Ganderbal. The issue of polythene carry bags, banned in J&K vide SRO 182, was taken up recently by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, with various Deputy Commissioners and the District Development Commissioner Islamabad (Anantnag) was asked to check the inflow of the banned material to the valley at Lower Munda Check Post.
 The recent raids were conducted in compliance to the directions of the Divisional Commissioner.
 SPCB Regional Director, Kashmir, SFA Gillani said the raids to stop the resurfacing of polythene carry bags in the market would continue with increased vigour.
