6 marble units registered in Kupwara, only 1 functional

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, Mar 8: Minister for Industries and Commerce, S S Slathia has said that six marble units are registered with district industries Centre Kupwara out of which one unit is functional, four units are non-functional and one unit is non-existent.
This, according to an official handout, was stated by the Minister in reply to a question by Mir Saifullah in the House here today.
The Minister said that in Kupwara, J&K Minerals Ltd is owning a small pilot marble plant which has been closed owing to eruption of militancy in 1989-90.
Slathia said that from 1982-83 to 1985-86, four marble units have been benefited under erstwhile Central Outright Investment Subsidy Scheme (COIS) amounting to Rs 30.93 lakh.
He said Jammu and Kashmir SIDCO had in 1983 financed one marble unit namely M/S Soura Marbles. He said the unit was provided term loan of Rs 51.07 lakh which the unit holder has liquidated under one time settlement scheme.
The Minister said under government order with regard to package of incentives and concessions for revival of sick industrial units and as per the said order an amount of Rs 51.41 lakh has been sanctioned in favour of two units as soft loan, out of which Rs 30 lakh have been disbursed and Rs 21.41 lakh have not been disbursed due to non-completion of required formalities by the unit holder.
The Minister said that only one such marble unit M/S K. B. Marbles Batergam, Kupwara was disposed of by the unit holder because the said unit was occupied by security forces as a result of which the machinery was damaged.
He said though the unit holder had taken Central outright investment subsidy in 1985-86, since the subsidy was taken 20 years back, therefore, no action was required to be taken as per the agreement for recovery of the subsidy amount. He said however, the department has issued notices on March 19, 2010 and December 8, 2010 to the unit for deregistration.
