2 get 13-yr term in gang rape case

Bandipore, Apr 30: A Session Court in this north Kashmir town on Saturday sentenced two alleged government-gunmen to 13-years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 55000 after they were found guilty of a gang rape case dated back to 1997.
After a long augments between public prosecutor, advocate Hafeez Lone and defence lawyer, Session Judge Muhammad Akram Chowdary announced the verdict.
Two convicts Illiyas Bhatt and Tafazul Khalid alias Setha of Nadihal Bandipore had gang raped a 29-year-old woman at Nadihal here on June 25 1997.
The victim had lodged a complaint in Police Station Bandipore on June 25 1997 after which both the accused were arrested and an FIR No. 175/97 Under Section/376/457 RPC-27 was registered against them.
The chargesheet against the duo was presented on September 20, 1991 in Sessions court Baramulla. According to the facts of the case both convicts had forcibly raped a woman after barging into her room at Naidhal during night.
