World Veterinary Day celebrated in JK

Srinagar, Apr 30: To mark the World Veterinary Day 2011 several functions were observed across the state under the aegis of J&K Veterinary Doctors’Association.
 In Srinagar volunteers from the association organized a Veterinary Aid camp in Leper Colony, Bahrar where veterinary medicines and nutritional supplements were distributed among the livestock owners. Scores of animals were examined and treated for various diseases.
 On this occasion Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals- Kashmir (SPCA-K) formally launched Veterinary Ambulatory Services.
 According to Dr Gowhar Gora, president of the SPCA-K the mobile veterinary service will be available for all the animals including injured abandoned animals all the seven days a week.
 Following the clinical camp a large number of Vets attended a seminar on role of vets and rabies control. The speakers included Drs Gowhar Gora, Ishfaq A Phalgroo, G A Nahvi, GR Mir, F A Kaloo, Anoop Singh, Qazi Muneer, Reyaz A Beigh.
 In the afternoon the JKVDA organized an interactive meeting with prospective poultry breeders wherein some unemployed youth were made aware about the income generation from the avocation and the schemes under which financial assistance is available.

WVD at RS Pura
 A 2-day seminar was held by the faculty & students of Veterinary College at RS Pura. VC SKUAST-Jammu B Misra urged the students to actively participate in technical seminars.
 Dr Karnail Singh, Director Extension Education SKUAST-J was the chief guest at the seminar on Job opportunities for Vets in J&K.
 Dr A R Nazki, Dean FVSc&AH dwelt at length on different aspects of the growing unemployment problem among vets. Dr Mohinder Badhwal, Associate Dean FVSc made a presentation on behalf of Dr F A Kaloo CEO, Livestock Development Board, Kashmir in which avenues of employment were identified as Municipalities, Wildlife besides sheep & animal husbandry department.

WVD at Shuhama
 A function was held at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Shuhama. Director Resident Instruction/Dean PG Studies Dr Badrul Hassan was the Chief Guest and Dr Affifa Kamili, Director Extension Education and Dr Shafiq Wani, Director Research were also present.
 The celebration started with the Veterinary Clinical Camp at Teaching Veterinary Clinical Service Complex, Shuhama and Director Extension Education inaugurated the camp. About 106 animal cases were registered for medical surgery and gynaecology disorders and were treated by the scientists of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Service Complex headed by Dr D M Makhdoomi.
