Durbar Move: Huge burden on state exchequer

This refers to the bi-annual Durbar Move. Every six months the offices shift from Srinagar to Jammu and then back to Srinagar. It is a huge burden on the state exchequer besides affecting the service delivery quite badly. Though it is politicians to take a call on putting an end to the practice, which seems to be very unlikely, the state government think on the issue very seriously. This is the age of e-governance and computers where such practices should automatically end. But since we are living in Kashmir, everything is seen from the prism of discrimination and politics. People of Jammu and Kashmir must think about other states where such practices are not in place. Here it takes crores of rupees to go for Durbar Move and still people of the two regions are unhappy with the functioning of the government. That is because Durbar Move hits governance in both Jammu and Kashmir regions. The state government can form a committee of experts and politicians to look into the issue and suggest ways and means of improving service delivery in the civil secretariat.
