Top Home Ministry official in Kashmir
Discuses rehabilitation policy
Srinagar, May 10: The Joint Secretary (Kashmir) in Union Home Ministry, K Sakandan, Tuesday, held a detailed meeting with the Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda, and other senior officials of the state here over the issue of rehabilitation policy of Kashmiri youth, a local news agency reported.
Under the policy announced by the state government last year, Kashmiri youth wishing to return home from Pakistan or Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) would be granted amnesty and would receive financial assistance for rehabilitation.
Till now the state government has received more than 600 applications under the policy.
The news agency quoting sources said the officials briefed Sakandan about the cases received so far. “He (Sakandan) told them to expedite the process of verification of militants wishing to return from across LoC. Sakandan told state officials that youth who are ready to join mainstream should be given a chance on priority to return,” sources added.
