BSNL to extend broadband in rural areas

Jammu, May 11: Here is some good news for the Valley net users. Endeavouring to expand its broadband service, the BSNL has signed a pact with Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under Rural Wire-line Broadband Scheme to provide wire-line broadband connectivity to rural and remote areas.
Under the pact the existing rural exchanges’ infrastructure and copper wire-line network will be leveraged. “With this the speed of each of the broadband connections shall be at least 512 kbps,” the company in a statement said.
It added: “Under this scheme, BSNL will provide 8,88,832 wire-line broadband connections to individual users and government institutions by 2014.” “The subsidy disbursement is for broadband connections, Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), and Computer/Computing Devices,” it added. It said the once extended to remote and rural areas, the people there would enjoy the internet facility through broadband.
