Felling trees at Dodhpathri and the clarification thereof
This refers to the photograph published in your esteemed paper on May 11/ 2011 captured by landscape photographer, Mukhtar Ahmad captioned savage slaughter about wanton slaying of coniferous trees at Dodhpathri.
The road construction from Khanshaib Reyar Dodhpathri has been undertaken under the CRT (Central Road Funding) project. An amount of Rs 1.20 Crores as compensation to Forest Department has already been made by the R&B Department. The project has been undertaken in view of the fact that the road is in a very dilapidated condition and has to be widened before major repairs like macdamization is done. It was needed to fell the trees at the spots where ever the widening was required. The forest department has already cleared the project after undertaking the required survey and completing other necessary formalities required under rules and regulation of the Forest Act. The project stands cleared by the Technical committees constituted in this regard by the State Government.
