Police-Public Meet in west City

SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI

Srinagar, May 11: The Superintendent of Police west City, Dr Sunil Gupta on Wednesday hosted a Police -Public Meet at Parimpora Station while a youth conference was also held there.
The civilian invitees told the police that they were fed up of traffic mess at Qamarwari Chowk adding that precious time goes waste in the jams.
While assuring that the matter would be picked up with the Traffic, Dr Gupta said Thana people would also provide assistance in streamlining of the traffic.
The locals hailed the police for not allowing “double laning” of roadside vendors in the area and appealed that the same be maintained.
Interestingly, it was resolved that night vigil by Chowkidars to avoid thefts had been fruitful since February when the nocturnal patrol system was decided amicably by the locals and the police at a similar meet.
Police said the SP had told the people to hire local unemployed youth for night vigil adding that they would be assisted by police from time to time.
“The same has been fruitful as not even a single burglary has been reported from any of the shops here,” the SDPO Sajad Khaliq told Greater Kashmir.
He said the shopkeepers pool Rs 50 each per month as salary for the Chowkidaars and the technique had worked.
Earlier while addressing a Youth Conference, the SP ensured that “all the problems of the youth will be looked into”
Dr Gupta stated that “his office welcomes all youth for any assistances at any moment.”
SHO Parimpora Ghulam Mohi UD Din was also present on the occasion.
