GMC commemorates Int’l Nurses Day

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, May 12: To commemorate the International Nurses Day, Government AMT School Wednesday organized a function at Government Medical College Srinagar.
Addressing the nurses, Principal GMC Dr Shahida Mir highlighted the services rendered by nursing staff in the hospital.
“Nursing profession is considered as most vital component of hospital. It is nurse who spends much of time with patients and hence develops relationship with patients.  The bond becomes so strong that patients follow the orders of nurses rather than doctors,” Mir said.
Admitting the work overflow in the hospitals, she said, the “ideal ratio of nurses 1:3 is not available.”
“I do realize they are overburdened by work here. Due to stress and overload of work, the patient is dissatisfied,” she said adding “they have been at forefront during the years of turmoil.”
Highlighting the role of Islam, Medical Superintendent SMHS, Dr Muneer Masoodi said that the foundation of nursing was laid by the wife of an illustrious Companion (RA) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) 1400 years back.
“During the Holy Battle of Uhud, Prophet (SAW) was treated by the wife of a holy warrior,” Masoodi said.
He appealed the nurses to work dedicatedly and serve this noble cause.
Among others nursing superintendent Dr Talat was present on the occasion.
