Shed, car gutted in Buchpora fire
Locals say bad roads delayed firefighting
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, May 12: A shed and a car parked at a house of a prominent medico were gutted Thursday at Shah Faisal Colony Buchpora drawing severe criticism from locals who said bad roads hindered quick access of firefighters to the suburb locality.
The shed and a new Maruti Esteem car owned by Dr Abdul Wahid were gutted when he was out for some work.
The locals said the spread of fire could have been prevented by the timely action of the firefighters.
“But the bad roads and the ongoing work of drainage construction led to delay in firefighting,” the residents said even as they accused the state government of being callous towards the City.
“I am not that concerned about the losses incurred in the fire. But what pinches me more is the callous attitude of the authorities as even last year a similar incident took place in the area but there has been no respite,” Dr Wahid told Greater Kashmir.
“If this remains the concern of the government, the bad road conditions may prove disastrous for Srinagarites,” his neighbor lamented.
Pertinently, the locals said the colony streets are in a bad condition for the past over two decades while successive regimes have failed to act.
