Panchayat elections in Srinagar on May 16

Srinagar, May 13: The Panchayat election for 10 Panchayat Halqas of district Srinagar are going to polls on May 16, an official handout Friday said.
In all, 76 polling stations have been setup for 14467 electorates.
This was stated by District Panchayat Election Officer, (DC) Srinagar MA Kakroo at a meeting of officers convened to finalise all the necessary arrangements in this behalf.
He said 137 candidates are in fray for Panch seats while 27 Sarpanchs will also try their luck in these elections.
Kakroo said all the security arrangements besides transport are in place. He said training to poll staff was also imparted for a couple of days to ensure smooth, free and fair polling on the day.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, District Panchayat Officer, S. P. HQ, Srinagar, SP Bandipora, Returning officers, ARO’s and BDO’s attended the meeting.
