DALGATE MALL ROAD RESIDENTS SEEK DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION

Srinagar, May 14: The inhabitants residing along the Dalgate pedestrian mall road have appealed the government to construct drainage system for preventing sewerage flow into this pristine waterbody. Around 200 houses living on this stretch have to suffer in absence of any drainage facility.
 According to the inhabitants, “Without any concrete sewerage treatment facility we are facing huge hardships. We are suffering huge losses in our business without it.”
 Two brothers, Muhammad Yosuf Mir and Mushtaq Ahmad who have been campaigning to save Dal lake also voiced their concern over the issue.
 “We have been campaigning since the year 1997 to protect this water body from further pollution and encroachment through ‘Saun Dal’ forum at several schools and places. But nothing emerged since then,” they said.
 Yousuf said that “by constructing drainage system around the lake this water body will be saved from further pollution.”
  “We want world famous Dal should be free from sewerage that directly flows into it otherwise. Dal is the pristine water body of the valley and we have to preserve it,” said Yousuf who doesn’t throw wastes into the Dal lake.
