Docs, paramedics’ shortage hit patient care in SDH Kangan
48 SANCTIONED POSTS VACANT; AUTHORITIES UNMOVED
SHEIKH NAZIR
Kangan, May 15: The shortage of doctors and paramedical staff in Sub-District/Trauma hospital Kangan is adversely affecting the patient care and functioning of the institution.
The 100 bed hospital, which was upgraded to Trauma centre, two years ago, has good infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment.
Sources revealed that 48 sanctioned posts of doctors and paramedical staff were still lying vacant in the hospital. These include: two B-grade specialist anesthesia, one B-grade specialist ENT, one B-grade specialist Ophthalmologist, one B-grade orthopedics, three assistant surgeons, three anesthesia assistants, 10 Junior Grade nurse, four Junior laboratory technology, three junior pharmacist, two senior X-ray technicians, three junior X-ray technicians, three theatre technicians, three nursing orderlies, one LAS, one MCH, one sanitary inspector, two WOS, one S/W, one LHV and an Axt Ly.
Sources said the patient rush in hospital was increasing with each passing day and the doctors were not able to do justice with their job. “On an average, the hospital is receiving about 350-450 patients per day and the doctors aren’t able to examine them properly,” sources said.
The locals are aghast over the Government apathy towards the issue. “The Government claims about health being its priority sector is just a hoax,” the natives said and sought immediate filling of these posts.
When contacted, Minister of State for Health, Javed Ahmad told Greater Kashmir that the process of filling the vacant posts in hospitals was on and would take some time to complete. “Availability of doctors and other staff in all the Trauma hospitals will be given preference and the Government was on it,” Javed said.
