New Delhi, May 15: Northern India continues to simmer under hot conditions with the maximum temperature today rising to 45.9 deg C in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar.
 Scorching sun forced Delhiites to confine themselves to their homes on a Sunday as mercury soared to 42.6 deg C.
 Today's maximum was four degree above normal and up from yesterday's 41 deg C, while the minimum was at 28.4 deg C, three degrees above normal and up from previous day's 28.2 deg C.
 Other parts in Rajasthan also recorded maximum temperatures above the 40 degree mark, while the Pink City registered a high of 42.6 deg C.
 Churu recorded 45.8 deg C, Jaisalmer and Bikaner 44 deg C each, Barmer 43 deg C, Kota 43.9 deg C, Ajmer 42 deg C, Dabok 41 deg C and Jodhpur 40.8, respectively.
 Heat wave continued in Uttar Pradesh where the maximum temperature reached upto 45.5 deg C in Banda.
 Lucknow registered a maximum of 43.1 deg C, three notches above normal. Jhansi recorded a high of 44.4 deg C followed by Varanasi 43.6 deg C and Kanpur 43 deg C.
 The plains of Haryana and Punjab also remained to reel under the heat conditions.
 Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 41 deg C, three notches above normal and up by a degree since yesterday, the MeT said here.
 In Haryana, Hisar was the hottest at 43.9 deg C, four above normal level. Ambala, too, had a hot day at 41.8 deg C, also up by four notches.
 In Punjab, Patiala recorded a high of 43 deg C, followed by Amritsar 42.7 deg C and Ludhiana 42.6 deg C.
 Day temperature rose marginally in lower and mid hills of Himachal Pradesh, while the minimum temperatures remained moderate there.
 Una in Shivalik foothills was hottest in the region with mercury touching 42.8 deg C -- four degree above normal, while Mandi and Sundernagar recorded a high of 38.6 deg C and 37.4 deg C espectively.
 Simla was hot during the day with mercury touching 28.5 deg C -- more than 6 degree above normal, while Nahan recorded a high of 29.1 deg C.
 Bhuntar, Nahan and Dharamsala recorded maximum temperatures at 35.2 deg C, 35 deg C and 33.6 deg C, while Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district recorded a high of 25 deg C, four degree above normal.
