Tourism backbone of JK economy: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 15: Chairman, Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday said that tourism was the backbone of J&K’s economy.
“Economic stability is a must for taking the freedom movement to its logical conclusion. Tourism is vital for our economy so it is necessary to boost this sector for prosperity of the society,” he said while inaugurating Brij Banana Life Hotel at Meerak Shah Sahab Chowk Khayam here.
Mirwaiz said during his foreign trips, he stressed on European Union, America and Organization of Islamic Countries to invest in Kashmir.
“I also asked them to come forward for the protection of water bodies and natural beauty of Kashmir,” he said.
Expressing concern over “social evils and waywardness”, Mirwaiz called for joint efforts to weed out these evils.
On the occasion, number foreign tourists and people associated with the hotel industry were present.
