Tree Talk begins at Silver Jubilee in City

25th episode held in Emporium Garden

Srinagar, May 15: After holding 24 Tree Talks in Jammu province –the awareness program on importance of forest flora and fauna commenced in Srinagar at Emporium Garden Sunday morning –marking the Silver Jubilee of the weekly program.
 Over 80 participants hailing from different backgrounds gathered to celebrate Silver Jubilee session of popular eco-friendly campaign.
 Additional Principal Chief conservator of Forest, Abdul Razak while highlighting the concept and motive of “Morning Walk with Tree Talk” emphasized on the role of civil society in transmitting “traditional and modern tree related values amongst younger generation and need of knowing native names of plants and animals.”
 Joint Director Environment and Remote Sensing department, Mian Javed focused his discussion on ornamental wild tree named Horsechestnut locally known as Handun.
 In his address, Principal SP College, Prof Zahoor Ahmad Chat said the program was a good initiative where experts and common people come face to face and share their wisdom so that “traditional values and modern innovations in the field of tree usage can be widely disseminated.”
 He also stressed on the role of media in spreading “local sensibilities related to tree and forest traditions among cross section of society.”
 The program host, DR OP Sharma aka Vidyarthi held deliberations about various trees found in Srinagar City and their importance.
 Expert on conifers and former forest official Muhammad Sultan Wadoo talked about  ornamental Judas Tree and spoke about its importance.
 He lamented that conifers were allegedly being chopped down in Kashmir forests.
 Others present on the occasion were Principal KFT School Zuber Ahmad Shah, Syed Imtiyaz Zaidi, Dr Shabana Aslam, Dr Khursheed Ganaie, Dr Lalit Sharma, Zamir Thakur, Aman Arvinder, and Greater Kashmir’s City Page Editor Majid Hyderi.
