PULWAMA PREMIER LEAGUE T-20 BEGINS
Pulwama, May 16: The Pulwama leg of Kashmir Premier League T-20 cricket tournament organised by Army started at sports stadium Pulwama here on Monday.
In this regard a grand opening ceremony was held by 55 RR Grenadiers/ 12 sector RR. Brig Shivender Singh Cdr 12 sector RR inaugurated the event. DC Pulwama, Shafaat Noor Barlas along with SSP Pulwama and other civilian dignitaries graced the occasion, a defence handout said.
On the inaugural day two matches were played. The first match was between Bunera Bulls and Washbug Wolves.
In first match Bunera Bull Scored 155 for the loss of 6 wickets in allotted 20 overs. In reply Washbug Wolves were all out for 122 runs. In second match batting first Tral Tuskers scored 134 for 9 in allotted 20 over. Tahab Tigers chased down the score for the loss of three wickets. In the event 8 teams are participating.
The competition aims at engaging and encouraging the youth of Pulwama district to develop sportsmanship spirit and to further select a District level team that will participate in Chinar Cup 2011 organised by HQ 15 Corps, handout said.
The tournament is being played on a league cum knockout basis in accordance with the rules of IPL T-20 cricket. The teams are divided in two groups. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals to be played on May 22 followed by the grand final on May 23. On Tuesday two matches would be played, Dangerpora Dragons will take on Pulwama Panthers in first match while Kakapora Kangaroos will lock horns with Naman Nomads in second match.
