JKCA U-16 school tourney begins
rinagar, May 18: The Under-16 level school cricket tournament organised by J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) started at Sheri-Kashmir stadium-B here on Tuesday.
The inaugural match was played between Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) and Woodland school. Batting first GVEI was all out for 170 runs in 28 overs. Ufaan with 33 was highest scorer for them while Adil took three wickets for Woodland.
In reply Woodland was bundled out for only 74 runs. GVEI won match by 97 runs. Naseer and Maseeh took four wickets each for GVEI.
NCC Naval camp concludes
Srinagar, May 18: A annual Naval NCC training camp organised by 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC under the aegis of NCC Group Srinagar of NCC Directorate J & K, at Tatoo Ground Srinagar concluded on Sunday.
The venue for camp and necessary support was provided by 15 Corps Srinagar. Young boys and girls of age group 13 to 19 from around 30 Schools and Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the Camp, an official handout said.
The aim of the camp was to impart collective Naval NCC training to the cadets of different institutions and afford them an opportunity to co-operate and live together as a team, introduce cadets to waterborne activities, develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular out-look, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship and ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens, statement said.
Sharjah Cup concludes at Kargil
Srinagar, May 18: The Sharjah Cup cricket tournament organized by a local NGO of Akchamal (SABA) concluded at Sarjah ground Akchamal, Kargil on Tuesday.
The cup was lifted by Young Era Poyen by defeating Border Shilikchey by 21 runs. In this tournament 34 teams from the Border Villages of Soth region from Hundurman to Sharchey Musbar. Muhhamd Mussa of Young Era Poyen was adjudged as man of the match and also the man of the series, an official handout said.
Brigadier 121 Infantry Brigade SK Shawney was the chief guest on the occasion while MLA Zanskar Feroz Ahmad Khan was the guest of honour.
On the occasion Brigadier S K Shawney said that youth in Kargil has got lots of talent and agencies has to come forward to harness these talents so that they can represent themselves at National and International level, statement said.
He told that Army has a plan in the future to search for local talents and will sponsor them, so that they can be given proper guidance and can emerge as an asset to the society in the field of sports. On the demand of the Local NGO he said that the levelling of the Ground will be started within 15 days, statement further said.
On this occasion MLA Zanskar also interacted with the people and players and said that youths should focus on Education as well so that the future generation will become a competent Society. He also appreciated the Role of Indian Army for the development of youths as well as the coordination of Army with the Civil Administration.
