Close shave for Geelani’s family

Srinagar, May 20: Family members of the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani had a miraculous escape on Thursday night when a big tree fell at their house in north Kashmir.

Reports said that following a massive windstorm in north Kashmir a huge tree fell on Geelani’s ancestral house at Dooru Sopore.  Geelani’s son, Dr Nayeem, his daughter and son-in-law, Ghulam Hassan Makhdoomi were present in the house when the incident took place.

The house and a car of Nayeem were damaged. The house belongs to Geelani, but these days his daughter and son-in-law are residing there.

Meanwhile, police this morning released Geelani from the house arrest.
The spokesman of Hurriyat (G) Ayaz Akbar told a local news agency that police informed Geelani about the incident. “Police told Geelani sahib that he can visit Dooru but cannot proceed to Islamabad (Anantnag) to address a rally. Geelani sahib rushed to Dooru to meet his family. He also offered Friday prayers there,” Akbar said.
