5 die, 24 hurt in road mishaps
Srinagar, May 21: Five persons were killed and 24 others injured in different road mishaps in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Police said two persons identified as Muhammad Ashraf and Muhammad Rafiq were killed and nine others injured when a truck carrying bovines from Ramnagar to Srinagar, skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge near Ramnagar in Udhampur district. The injured were admitted in hospital.
Police said a 10-year-old girl, Sakshi Sharma, was killed and three members of her family including her father were injured when their vehicle rolled down into a gorge in Dasal area of Rajouri district.
A woman identified as Shanti Devi, was killed and her minor child was injured when an unidentified vehicle hit her in Satwari area of Jammu city.
Police said a motorcyclist Daljeet Singh was killed in a hit and run case in Vijaypur area of Samba district today.
Meanwhile, 11 persons including a policeman were injured in different road accidents in Kashmir on Saturday. Police said a tipper (JK04/2097) hit a motorcycle (JK01G/9481) at Drangbal Pampore near Khrew Chowk resulting in injuries to the motorcyclist, Anhan Rashid of Namlabal Pampore and two pillion riders, Muhammad Naseer and Zaheer Abass of Thana Mandi Rajouri. The injured have been shifted to SKIMS Soura.
Police said an Oil tanker (JK02D/1295) collided with a Maruti Van (JK05B/3309) at Tapper, Baramulla resulting in injuries to four persons identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie, Abdul Qayoom Bhat, Ghulam Nabi and Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, all residents of Panzipora Sopore. They have been hospitalized.
A youth, Fayaz Ahmad of Kandigagra Ramban was injured when he fell down from a moving Mini bus (JK04/1534) at Peerbagh here, police said. He was shifted to hospital and discharged after treatment.
Police said a Scorpio (JK024/0190) hit and injured a Special Police Official (SPO) Ashiq Hussain (Belt no 722/SPO) at Shalipora, Anantnag (Islamabad). An unidentified Motorcycle hit and injured Simran Jan daughter of Muhammad Maqbool Shah at Sindbal Ganderbal, police said. She has been hospitalized.
A Tata Mobile (JK05B/6638) hit and injured Zakir Ahmad Gazi son of Muhammad Maqbool at Badbugh, Handwara. The injured was shifted to SKIMS Soura here. Police has registered cases in all these incidents and started investigation.
