Lone ridicules PDP’s claim

‘NC WON 25 SARPANCH SEATS IN SONAWARI’

PANCHAYAT POLLS

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, May 22: Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and MLA, Sonawari Muhammad Akbar Lone on Sunday ridiculed the claim of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that candidates supported by it had won 20 sarpanch seats in Sonawari constituency.
Commenting on PDP President Mehooba Mufti, Moulvi Iftkhar Ansari, and Nizamuddin Bhat felicitating Yasir Reshi of PDP for winning 20 out of 38  seats in Sonawari, Lone said, “The statement is totally immature, self defeating and a canard. The PDP propagating that its candidates have won majority of seats of panchs and sarpanchs in Sonawari area is just a figment of its imagination.”
He said that panchayati elections were conducted on non party basis, but in order to clarify the position of Sonawari area, he said, out of the total 41 seats in the area candidates backed by National Conference won 14 out of 23 seats in Hajin, 3 in Safapora and 8 in Sumbal areas respectively.
“Twenty five sarpanchs backed by National Conference won the elections,” he said.
Lone asked the PDP leaders not to spread rumors by floating false figures about winning panchayat elections. “These facts and figures can be verified from the concerned administrative authorities as they have full knowledge about the winning candidates and their association with the parties,” he added.
