Compete with Geelani at political level: Hurriyat (G) to CM
Srinagar, May 26: Hurriyat (G) on Thursday said the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah should compete with its chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani at the political level.
“If he (Omar Abdullah) has any role in running the affairs of State Government and being a political figure, he should compete with our leader at the political level. CM can put Geelani under house arrest with the assistance of police and Army, but cannot defeat his ideology,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman of amalgam Ayaz Akbar said in a statement
He said Omar Abdullah had proven himself as “non-serious ruler, like his predecessors by failing to keep his words.”
“Hurriyat will inform the court about adamant behavior of state police through the writ petition pending before it against continuous house arrest of Geelani,” he added.
Flaying the State Government for putting Geelani under house arrest, Akbar said the pro-freedom leader was scheduled to address a public rally at Hazratbal on May 27, as part of the amalgam’s campaign to seek the release of detainees.
“The Government also foiled the rallies at Shopian and Islamabad (Anantnag) by keeping him under house arrest and imposing undeclared curfew in these areas,” he said.
He said there was “blanket ban on the political activities of Kashmiris and our leaders have been kept behind the bars under draconian laws.”
“Though, due to political compulsions, Geelani has not been kept in jail. But his residence has been turned into prison and curbs have been imposed on his activities. Even he is not allowed for prayers in Masjid and meeting people, according to his will,” he said.
Akbar said “all the decisions on Kashmir including Geelani were being taken by Home Ministry and Omar Abdullah government is being used as mere signboard.”
“This is being done to keep the world under dark over the grave situation of Kashmir,” he said.
