Early half yearly exams irk students, parents
‘Pvt schools have taken us for a ride’
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, May 26: The conduction of half year exams “before schedule” by some of the leading private schools in the City has irked the students and their parents alike as the former find it inconvenient to appear in the 'untimely assessment.'
For the past few days, the schools have started “early and sudden” conduction of the exams even though the students were yet to complete their syllabus.
A delegation of parents from the prominent girls school said their wards were given mere five days notice for the exams even though the syllabus was pending for over a month of class work.
“When we approached the school authorities they rebuked us saying the students should develop a habit of completing syllabus at their homes,” the complainants said adding “the school authorities have taken them for a ride.”
A parent of a 5th standard student studying at leading boys school said the students have been given a week’s intimation for the exams.
“Their unit tests had been held merely a few days back and now they have more of exams… This is undue burden on the children,” said the parent adding that the entire family life was getting affected because of the “school highhandedness.”
The school authorities said there was nothing “premature about the exams.”
“Basically a group of influential families are trying to pressurize us to postpone the exams for their personal reasons,” the school spokesman said.
Meanwhile complainants have appealed the Director School Education department to look into the matter and streamline the “examination pattern.”
“We wonder why the government has been allowing the private schools to hold examinations as per their sweet wish and will… there needs to be a standard so that student of no school gets exploited,” they argued.
