Beacon clarifies on road projects
Srinagar, May 27: Beacon on Friday clarified that the macadamization between 58 to 62 kilometers on Srinagar– Baramulla–Uri road stretch was done during last year after a cycle of five years and the stretch was in very good condition as on date.
In a statement, Project Beacon chief engineer said Uri–Salamabad–Kaman Post road was constructed in 2008. However, due to the destabilized condition of the soil strata after the massive earthquake of 2005, landslides are a common feature, he said. “The existing resurfacing cycle being followed in this area is of five years, hence no funds are forthcoming in the normal course till 2013. However, seeing the condition of this road a technical board has been ordered by Beacon and the cycle has been recommended to be reduced to three years.”
All out efforts are being made to get this board approved from the MoD/BRDB so that the road stretch can be repaired and good riding surface can be provided to the road users, he added.
On Jammu–Srinagar road, there was no proposal for widening of Panthachowk with it, he added.
Clarifying on Islamabad (Anantnag)– Kokernag road, the chief engineer said funds to the tune of Rs 133 crores for land acquisition and shifting of utilities had been paid to the Revenue authorities.
“While there has been lot of progress on land acquisition since last two to three months, work can only be commenced by Beacon when the right of way totally free of encumbrances handed over,” the chief engineer said.
