Girl, boy drown in Kupwara

Srinagar, May 27: A girl drowned in a Nallah while two of her companions were rescued by locals at Faizabad, Karnah Kupwara.
According to police, Rakeena, 18, daughter of Muhammad Ismail Raina, Halima, 14, daughter of Abdul Rehman of Nowa Gabra Karnah and Mukhtar Ahmad Raina, 8, son of Muhammad Ismail fell into the Batmagi Nallah while crossing a foot bridge after returning from a marriage ceremony at Batpora Didar Karnah. After hearing the cries, police said, the locals rushed towards the spot and rescued Mukhtar Ahmad and Halima.
However, Rakeena drowned, police said adding efforts were on to retrieve her body.
In another incident, police said, a 7-year-old boy drowned in Kahmill Nallah at Balipora Handwara.
Police identified the deceased as Akash Ahmad Bhat son of Zahoor Ahmad of Machipora Handwara.
The body was fished out and handed over to relatives for last rites, police added.
MAN ENDS LIFE
A man committed suicide allegedly by consuming some poisonous substance at his home at Wadipora Handwara.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Abdul Rahim Mir son of Lassi Mir.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a person attempted suicide allegedly by consuming some poisonous substance at his home at Qamarwari Srinagar.
Police identified him as Mudasir Ahmad Shagoo, 28, son of Abdul Khaliq.
NHPC LABOURER HURT
A labourer of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation suffered injuries due to electric shock while repairing electric line near Rankipora, Budgam.
According to police, the wounded has been identified as Abdul Rouf Malik, 28, son of Abdul Gani of Daharmuna Saibugh.
The wounded has been hospitalized, police added.
60 SHEEP DIE IN ISLAMABAD
As many 60 sheep were killed due to heavy rainfall at Nowkhan Zabarpathri at Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district, police said.
