Wrong policies
This refers to the article “Who'll save the Green Gold?” by Dr. Khursheed Ganaie. The author has rightly highlighted the wrong policies of the state government vis-à-vis forest protection. This is causing huge loss to the state. It is unfortunate that the Forest Department is allowing construction of roads through forests. This can have very serious consequences. Forests are our valuable resources. They provide habitat to wildlife. Conservation of wildlife is necessary and of great importance. Wild animals require area for their movement. Timber smugglers have also caused great damage to forests. It is true that some officials instead of protecting forests facilitate timber smuggling and receive kickbacks from smugglers. When in Kashmir, the state government can arrest innocent boys for taking part in street protests, why can it act against the timber smugglers? It is our moral duty to protect our forests so that we can pass on this to our future generations.
