Protestors block Sgr-Leh road; seek electricity restoration
SHEIKH NAZIR
Kangan, May 2: Hundreds of people today blocked the Srinagar-Leh Highway at Cherwan here on the first day of its opening to protest the non-availability of electricity from the last few days.
The residents of Thune, Banibagh, Kawacherwan and Satrina assembled at the place and shouted slogans against the Power Development Department. “Our areas were groping in complete darkness. Despite our repeated pleas, the concerned PDD officials failed to restore the electricity to these areas,” the protestors said.
They also demanded change of high tension electric wires and poles in the area. “The electric wires are worn out and poles in dilapidated condition, causing threats to the lives of people,” they said.
