Naseem Akhter passes away
Srinagar, May 6: Noted Kashmiri singer, Naseem Akhter, 80, passed away at SK Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura on Friday evening.
Naseem was ailing from the last one week. She was buried in a graveyard at Magarmal Bagh.
Naseem started singing after passing the audition in Radio Kashmir Srinagar in 1951. She used to sing chorus with another famous Kashmiri singer Raj Begum.
In 1952, Naseem joined as staff artist when Ustad Jhande Khan of Poonch was music supervisor and Mohan Lal head of the music section.
Naseem sung many Kashmiri songs, majority of whom were Ghazals from Mehjoor. Naseem got training from Ghulam Qadir Langoo.
