Libya Falls to Nato
And there is silence across Muslim world
ACROSS THE WORLD BY SYED ARSHAD HUSSAIN KASHANI
Developments in Libya have been tragic. The cruel ruler has been killed by his own subjects with the aid of NATO. The country celebrates before the mortal remains of the killed dictator and his son are buried. We have seen a crowd celebrating in the cities like Misrata, Ben Gazi, Tripoli etc. On the other hand, there has been total destruction in the areas like Gaddafi’s hometown Sirte. Muslim world is generally silent over the state of affairs. There are cautious statements from heads of the state and even more cautious approach is exhibited by the men on the street.
It hurts when we invite the colonial powers to settle our own disputes and thus aid these powers in weakening us. At first, it may look like a favor but ultimately it is going to be a disaster. National Transitional Council in Libya achieved the goal of replacing Gadaffi, but they let NATO destroy the defense capability of Libya. Airports have been destroyed and military installations damaged. NTC got rid of Gadaffi, and the NATO got the control of the oil fields, a deadly symbiotic relationship.
NATO had no problem with Gadaffi as a person, nor any love for Libyan public. All they want is the weak head of the state where the security concerns are so high that they are invited to stand by. They created such atmosphere in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait etc using the ghost of Saddam Hussain. Libya draws immediate attention to the two main issues.
One, OIC which had the opportunity to step in and resolve the conflict in Libya couldn’t do so and therefore paved the way for the interference of colonial powers. The organization, as such, serves no purpose. This is tragic for a region whose people once conquered the world barefooted.
Gadaffi is a lesson for the kings in the Arab world. Despite ruling for four decades Gaddafi could not rule the hearts. He controlled the heads, made the necks bend and as a result is one of the main reasons for what happened in Libya. He worshipped the luxuries that brewed hatred among the masses. He tampered with the laws of Islam and tried to project his own religion; a mixture of different thoughts. He at one time was the favorite of those who today staged his death.
Who is celebrating with Libyans? They are alone joined formally by some western state heads. There are no takers from Muslim world to celebrate this event. There is silence in the Muslim world. Present government can not come out of the influence of NATO as you cannot escape the influence of those whom you ask for help. It looks Libya needs the birth of another Omar Mukhtar who fought Italy to free Libya from NATO now.
