Govt to construct 30 water filtration plants in Budgam

Budgam, Nov 9: The District Development Commissioner, Budgam Muhammad Rafi today said that 30 new filtration plants will be constructed in the district to provide safe drinking water to the people.
 Inaugurating one day workshop on ‘Water and sanitation’ as part of National Rural Drinking Water (NRDW) Mission held at Budgam today, the DDC said to create awareness about safe drinking water, students of 72 Government High and Higher Secondary Schools of the district would be imparted water testing training starting from November 12, Saturday.
 The DDC said that Panchs and Sarpanchs of the district would also be provided know how about safe drinking water through demonstration of water testing kits.
 Earlier, the DDC informed that only 33 percent population of the district are presently being provided filtered drinking water. “And to bring more areas under filtered drinking water facilities, 30 more water filtration plants have been sanctioned by the PHE department for the current financial year on the recommendations of district administration,” the DDC said.
 Meanwhile, the district administration has re-activated all the village sanitation Committees to ensure availability of safe drinking water to the people. The people of the district in general have been asked to cooperate with the concerned field agencies in removing latrines setup near the banks of streams and especially those streams which are being used as drinking water sources.
 The speakers especially Panchs and Sarpanchs  in their address stressed for more monitoring and surveillance on water quality to provide clean drinking water to the people. They said that prevalence of most of the disease was mainly due to use of unfiltered drinking water.
 The workshop among others was attended by the engineers of PHE, Sarpanchs and Panchs of the district, concerned officers of the district administration and functionaries of the Communication and Capacity Development unit of NRDW Mission.
