JK gets first Bharti Walmart store

Jammu, Nov 9: Bharti Walmart, the joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart Stores, today opened its first cash-and-carry store here.
Launching the first Bharti Walmart store here and 13th in the country, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, "Jammu and Kashmir is now on the Walmart map of the world".
Flanked by Rajan Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Walmart and Raj Jain, MD and CEO, Bharti Walmart, Chief Minister said "J&K is ahead of Delhi, which is yet to get on such a store".
Spread over 53,000 square feet, the Best Price Modern Wholesale store in Jammu is situated at in Top Sher Khanian, near BSF Camp on Akhnoor road and offers best fixed and fair prices with unmatched convenience, choice, quality, hygiene, and selections.
The store is a one-stop business-to-business store that meets the day-to-day needs of restaurant owners, hoteliers, caterers, fruit and vegetable resellers, kirana stores, offices and institutions, Mittal told reporters.
Best Price Modern Wholesale store will stock over 6,000 items, including a wide range of fresh, frozen & chilled foods, fruit and vegetables, dry groceries, personal and home care items, hotel and restaurant supplies, apparels, office supplies and other general merchandise items, he said.
He said that several products available have been locally sourced from Jammu and Kashmir. These include apples, milk and milk products, rice, baked products, oil, atta and tea and coffee.
Mittal said: "We are delighted to open our first Best Price store in Jammu and further expand and strengthen our presence in northern India.”
"The opening of this store will add value to the economy of the State and will also source products locally besides creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for over 600 people", he said.
"Our key focus will be to add value and provide momentum to the local industry and offer our valued members great quality at affordable prices", he said.
Jain said "With the opening of our store in Jammu, the ninth in northern India, we are happy to start our operations in Jammu, the primary economic centre of this state".
"We are confident that our wholesale prices, assortment, and services will contribute to help people save money so they live better", he said.
Bharti Walmart Private Limited Bharti Walmart Private Limited is a business-to-business (B2B) joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Walmart for wholesale cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain management operations in India to serve small retailers, manufacturers and farmers.
The JV launched its first B2B Best Price Modern Wholesale cash-and-carry store in Amritsar in May 2009. A typical cash-and-carry store stands between 50,000 and 100,000 square feet and sells a wide range of fresh, frozen and chilled foods, fruits and vegetables, dry groceries, personal and home care, hotel and restaurant supplies, clothing, office supplies and other general merchandise items.
The JV is expected to open a total of 15-16 Best Price Modern Wholesale stores in India by 2011. Of this 8 stores have already been opened in 2011 (including Jammu).
